Altering or Repairing Your Septic System

If your system requires repairs or alterations to make it work properly again, you may need a permit before you can start work. A registered and bonded contractor will know when an alteration permit is required. If you are uncertain, contact Water Quality staff at (513) 946-7862 for more information.
The following are examples of when you will need an alteration permit for your septic system. Other situations may exist.
- Replacing 20 or more feet of pipe in your system
- Replacing any tank in your system
- Relocating a portion of your system
- Moving a discharge line
Hire a registered and bonded contractor to help you with your project
All contractors who install or service household sewage treatment systems in Hamilton County must be registered and bonded with the Hamilton County General Health District. The Health District maintains a searchable database of all registered and bonded septic contractors.
