
Over the course of his long career in medicine and public health, Dr. Stephen Feagins likely has helped thousands of patients, medical students, colleagues and community members find their best paths to better health.
And now, the medical director at Hamilton County Public Health is being recognized for it in a big way.
On Jan. 20, the Cincinnati Business Courier revealed that Dr. Feagins is the winner of the newspaper’s 2026 Health Care Heroes Lifetime
Achievement Award. According to the Business Courier, the award “aims to recognize people who have made an impact on health care, which could include management skills, innovative programs for employees or service to the poor and uninsured.”
Dr. Feagins’ impact on Hamilton County
As medical director at Hamilton County Public Health since 2018, Dr. Feagins has demonstrated the kind of impact the Business Courier looks for in its award recipients. Though he is known nationally for his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic and other infectious disease concerns, Dr. Feagins concentrates on improving the public health outlook right here in Hamilton County. Alongside HCPH’s leaders and Board of Health, Dr. Feagins monitors trending diseases, prepares the region for major health emergencies and guides the next generation of medical experts, all to help Hamilton County residents thrive.
County residents also may recognize Dr. Feagins as a trusted voice from countless local media interviews and speaking engagements. Known for explaining medical science in everyday terms, Dr. Feagins has advised on important community health topics such as how to avoid measles, what
heat illness and hypothermia do to the body, how ticks transmit Lyme disease through bites, what getting the flu really feels like, and more.
