New HCPH Campaign Aims to Reduce New HIV Cases

Hamilton County Public Health (HCPH) has launched a new campaign that continues the agency’s efforts to end the HIV epidemic.

On Dec. 16, Hamilton County Public Health activated wetalkabouthiv.org, an initiative to curb stigma about and misinformation around HIV, STIs (sexually transmitted infections) and other sexual health concerns. The campaign shares resources and support and encourages Hamilton County residents to get their sexual health tested regularly at healthcare providers like Hamilton County Public Health’s new disease-prevention clinic.

As part of the end-HIV movement, HCPH’s social media accounts will begin sharing organic and boosted posts with information from the campaign as well as resources for personal and sexual health. HCPH is on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) at @HamCoHealth.
In addition, the online campaign soon will be extended to physical locations at major public transportation hubs throughout Hamilton County.

HCPH’s new campaign aims to save lives. According to the agency’s most recent quarterly report on HIV, published this month, newly diagnosed HIV cases are on the rise within Hamilton County. For Q1 through Q3 of 2024, there were 20.3% more new HIV cases diagnosed within the county, compared to the same time period in 2023: 95 cases in 2024 vs. 79 cases in 2023.

That increase in new HIV cases also is occurring throughout the seven-county region where Hamilton County Public Health performs surveillance and mitigation (Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, Highland, and Warren counties). For Q1 through Q3 of 2024, the number of new HIV cases rose by 9% throughout the region, compared to the same time period in 2023: 121 cases in 2024 vs. 111 cases in 2023.

Public health reports on HIV and other health concerns are available on Hamilton County Public Health’s website
