Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training vacancy in the Environmental Health Division.  The successful candidate will conduct community health inspections to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.  Requirements include State of Ohio Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training registration or ability to obtain; Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Master’s Degree; Valid Driver’s License and private vehicle for job use.  Some evening and weekend hours required.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for a Public Health Nurse in the Division of Disease Prevention.  Requirements include: Ohio RN licensure or multistate licensure plus one (1) year experience. Experience in Public Health Nursing preferred.  Experience with Epic highly desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in state of residency.  Must maintain current Basic Life Support CPR and AED (BLS) certification; willingness to undergo FIT testing.  This position must abide by all state and federal laws, rules and HCPH policies and procedures.  Must be skilled in operating a personal computer.  This position performs high level professional duties and responsibilities in the care and treatment of patients at and for Hamilton County Public Health.

Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Tuberculosis case management and contact investigations.
  • Phone and in person triage/assessment for STI testing.
  • Provides public health nursing services for patients (adults and children) in the disease prevention clinic and in the community.
  • Obtaining and processing lab specimens including blood draws, sputums and processing lab reports.
  • Conducting direct observed therapy in clinic or fieldwork.
  • Administering immunizations and injections.
  • Ability to navigate the Epic EMR system.
  • Provide education, schedule appointments, provide follow up treatment for those needing additional treatment.
  • Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.

Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for a Septic System Inspector (WQ Technician) vacancy in the Water Quality Division.  The successful candidate will visually inspect sewage treatment systems (septic systems) to ensure compliance with State and local regulations.  Requirements include: High School Diploma/GED and experience which indicates a basic knowledge of water pollutants, sample collection techniques and a demonstrable ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Candidates with wastewater treatment knowledge or experience and/or a college degree are preferred.  Must have valid Driver’s License and private vehicle for job use.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performing on-site inspection of sewage treatment systems (including routine lifting of concrete lids) to ensure compliance with required public health standards and state and local regulations. Technicians conduct visual inspections of the system’s operation and effluent quality.

Student Internships and Practicum Experiences

Current Internship Opportunity

Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for an unpaid Health Promotion and Education Intern in the Department of Community Health Services. Internship will be from May 11- August 14, 2026*

Requirements include: a current student (bachelor’s or graduate level) of public health, dietetics, or related field, with knowledge of population health/health promotion and health education principles.

Candidate should have an interest in gaining experience with authentic community engagement and possess an ability to communicate with diverse audiences. Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residency. Some evening hours are required (approx. 2 hrs. once/week). This position requires intern to be in office for at least 8 hours per week in addition to visiting Early Care and Education providers within Hamilton County.

Projects include but are not limited to:


Assisting in the management of the WeTHRIVE! Initiative’s Farm to Early Care and Education (ECE) program:

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with various stakeholders. Examples include: local farmers, Early Care and Education Providers participating in the WeTHRIVE! Early Care and Education Initiative, children and families attending the participating early care and education locations.
  • Distribute surveys to families and early care and education providers and help with data management.
  • Prep for weekly tabling at ECE locations.
  • Engage children and caregivers in hands-on education around local produce.  


Assisting in the creation of a Farm to ECE Toolkit:

  • Translate public health information and best practices for populations served.
  • Assisting with formatting, editing, small sections of writing, etc.
