Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training vacancy in the Environmental Health Division. The successful candidate will conduct community health inspections to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations. Requirements include State of Ohio Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training registration or ability to obtain; Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Master’s Degree; Valid Driver’s License and private vehicle for job use. Some evening and weekend hours required.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conducting onsite inspections of operations, facilities and/or systems to ensure they meet required public health standards, rules and regulations (i.e., food service inspections, swimming pool inspections, public accommodation facilities, etc.)
- Investigating complaints or reports of public health nuisances and disease.
- Working with other officials and agencies in the promotion of improved environmental health.
- Ensuring Smoke Free Ohio compliance and maintenance of related documentation.

Starting Salary:
Registered Environmental Health Specialist in Training: $24.47 per hour

Hamilton County Public Health is accepting applications for a Public Health Nurse in the Division of Disease Prevention. Requirements include: Ohio RN licensure or multistate licensure plus one (1) year experience. Experience in Public Health Nursing preferred. Experience with Epic highly desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license in state of residency. Must maintain current Basic Life Support CPR and AED (BLS) certification; willingness to undergo FIT testing. This position must abide by all state and federal laws, rules and HCPH policies and procedures. Must be skilled in operating a personal computer. This position performs high level professional duties and responsibilities in the care and treatment of patients at and for Hamilton County Public Health.
Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:
- Tuberculosis case management and contact investigations.
- Phone and in person triage/assessment for STI testing.
- Provides public health nursing services for patients (adults and children) in the disease prevention clinic and in the community.
- Obtaining and processing lab specimens including blood draws, sputums and processing lab reports.
- Conducting direct observed therapy in clinic or fieldwork.
- Administering immunizations and injections.
- Ability to navigate the Epic EMR system.
- Provide education, schedule appointments, provide follow up treatment for those needing additional treatment.
- Selected immunizations or titers and/or periodic screening for tuberculosis may be recommended for this position.
- May be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.

The successful candidate will conduct sewage treatment system (septic systems) and private water system (cistern/well) inspections to ensure compliance with local and state requirements. Requirements include: State of Ohio Environmental Health Specialist/Environmental Health Specialist in Training Registration or ability to obtain; Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Valid Driver’s License and private vehicle for job use. Some evening and weekend hours required.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:
- Conduct onsite sewage treatment system inspections/sampling of residential and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with public health standards and state and local regulations.
- Providing technical advice to owners, operators and contractors on matters relating to sewage treatment systems.
- Preparing correspondence, records and reports concerning inspection made.
- Performing general office work (e.g., filing, answering telephones, etc.).
- Regulate the installation/alteration/sealing of sewage treatments systems.
- Review new and replacement sewage treatment system designs to ensure compliance with local and state requirements.
- Work with other officials and agencies in the promotion of improved environmental health.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
