Public health starts with each of us—the choices we make in our homes, workplaces, and communities. It’s about coming together, stronger and healthier through our collective efforts, to create a better environment for everyone.
For more than 100 years, Hamilton County Public Health has been at the heart of our community, committed to serving, educating, and empowering residents. Our mission is to help you, your family, businesses, and health partners make informed decisions that foster a thriving, vibrant community.
Public health isn’t just about one person—it’s about all of us. It’s about your health, your family’s well-being, and the strength of our entire community. From providing quality healthcare services to offering valuable educational opportunities, our team brings over a century of expertise to ensure Hamilton County thrives for generations to come.
Every day, you experience the impact of public health—whether you’re dining at a local restaurant, enjoying hot water, taking a walk in your neighborhood, changing your smoke detector batteries, washing your hands, or covering a cough. Public health is built on the belief that small actions can make a big difference, and that every choice we make affects our health and the well-being of those around us.
Each April, we celebrate public health’s vital contributions and recognize the amazing staff who promote public health year-round. Follow along April 7-11 to learn more about public health services and opportunities in Hamilton County.
It Starts with Us
Public health starts at home, in our neighborhoods, and in the spaces we share. It could mean making healthy food choices, creating an emergency plan with neighbors, or taking the important step of quitting smoking or scheduling that STI/HIV test you’ve been putting off.
We understand that starting these changes can be tough. That’s why Hamilton County Public Health is here to guide you every step of the way. Our caring, knowledgeable team is always ready to support you—whether it’s answering questions, providing resources, or offering advice to help you make choices that have a lasting, positive impact on your health and community.
It Starts with Education
Education empowers us to make healthier choices, and we’re here to support that journey with a wide range of learning and training opportunities. Each year, we offer multiple ServSafe® courses to help food service employees enhance food safety practices. Through our Recovery Friendly Hamilton County initiative, we equip employers and HR professionals with the tools and training to create supportive, recovery-friendly workplaces. Our dedicated staff also focuses on infant and maternal health, educating birthing people on the risks of co-sleeping, nutrition, and substance use during pregnancy—helping more babies celebrate their first birthdays. Our staff are always finding creative ways to share valuable public health information with the community.

It Starts with Access
We meet communities where they are, taking action to make a real difference. Our SAFE Services mobile van provides harm reduction services five days a week at over five locations. We also prioritize transparency through data reporting, allowing communities to track diseases and health outcomes with the help of our dedicated epidemiologists. Additionally, our Lead Hazard Reduction program supports low- to moderate-income families in removing lead paint and other hazards from their homes, creating healthier, safer living environments.

It Starts with Collaboration
Collaboration is key to building a healthier community. We work alongside local residents and health partners to bring our services to every corner of Hamilton County. Our stormwater program partners with the Metropolitan Sewer District to protect our waterways from pollution. We’ve teamed up with the 513 Bus to offer affordable birth certificate copies at convenient stops. We also closely collaborate with contractors, homeowners and business owners to ensure things like plumbing installations are safe and up to code.
